14-Days' Menus

Day Eleven

Breakfast

Half a grapefruit

100g (3½ oz) steak fried in butter, lard or goose fat with 75g (3 oz) mushrooms and a tomato.

Lunch

100g (3½ oz) ciabatta packed with fried 100g (3½ oz) steak and mustard sauce

Dinner

Waitrose chicken arrabiata, 175g portion, with salad and olive oil dressing

Dessert

Baked Egg Custard

Break 3 large eggs into an ovenproof dish and beat lightly. In a small saucepan, heat 600 ml (1 pint) full cream milk, but do not allow to boil. Add 6-8 drops liquid or granulated artificial sweetener and ½ tsp vanilla essence. Pour into the egg mixture while stirring to ensure it is well mixed. Sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg. Place the dish in a tray of water and bake in a cool oven (150°C/300°F/ Gas Mark 2) until the custard is just set (about 1 hour).

Serves 4
